Telangana Formation- On this historic day of 18th February 2014, Indian lower house i.e., Loksabha passed AP Reorganization bill with Voice vote.
To mark an end to six decades long people’s struggle and fullfill the aspirations of the formation of Telangana, biggest step was accomplished on this day, a decade ago.
Telangana Formation-History:
The state’s Reorganization which was done resulted the formation of Andhra Pradesh on linguistic basis was always a wedding without consent or forceful marriage.
Merging of erstwhile Hyderabad state with Coastal districts of Telugu speaking Madras state was an undisputed injustice. Telangana, a state with a different dialect, customs, traditions, festivals and economically surplus budget flourished by Hyderabad as its treasure. And with the loss of Madras to Tamil Nadu, desperate political lobby of Andhra state wanted to merge with Telangana which came in to force in 1956.
This merger forced large scale injustice mainly in government jobs and educational institutions where local students suffered due to their principle language “URDU” and had tough time in recruitments which had English as a primary language. This eventually benefitted educated graduates from coastal districts.
Also, Political balance also tilted towards coastal areas since Telangana had less representatives than Andhra region. Since the formation of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana got less than 10 years of chief ministership’s whereas coastal regions got lion’s share all those times.
